Abstract

In recent years, companies are striving to increase their performance and they have been dealing with many challenges in order to succeed putting their company ahead of competitors. On one hand there has been a growing interest in entrepreneurship research since it is seen as a major source of employment, economic growth and technological progress. In particular, some studies focused on a particular aspect that characterizes an entrepreneurial organisation, which is the entrepreneurial personality of people who work in the organisation. On the other hand, companies recently showed a greater level of interest in two topics that are engagement and empowerment which, according to different research, have a positive impact not only on a personal level but also on business outcomes. In the literature it is possible to find many evidences that a link between employee engagement and entrepreneurial behavior on one hand and between employee empowerment and entrepreneurial behavior on the other exists but further analysis is still needed. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate if there is a relationship between entrepreneurial talent and abilities of workers with their engagement and empowerment and the expectation is that a positive relationship exists. In order to answer my research questions, first I have conducted a review of the literature, then I have done a quantitative study on a sample of 137 employees coming from a big European company and finally I have analysed and interpreted the data collected. The results show that a correlation between workers’ entrepreneurial talent and abilities and their engagement exists but not between employees’ entrepreneurial talent and abilities and their empowerment. Anyhow, the study has some limits because it has been conducted using a small sample that comes from only one company and, in addition, it is not constituted by all the employees of the company. Therefore the result does not have a high level of generalizability so in the future further research should be conducted.
