The waterways, always places important in the processes of foundation and urban growth, are the result of slow but undeterred processes of profound change, vivid testimony of an interface more and more tension between the pressures and needs of human origin, and logical and urgencies requirements set by the biological. In piled river valley landscapes of the rivers of Abruzzo can be traced in juxtaposition, the alternation of ecological formations, of cultural conditioning, of anthropogenic disturbance, in which the river resource appears often as an accident within the radical changes which have occurred in recent decades. Landscapes of “different waters” marked by a difficult identity, landscapes “hidden”, hardly visible and understandable, landscapes “silent” asking recognition and enhancement, through an interpretative key and a new and different accessibility both physical and cultural. The process of enhancement of the waterway has to contemplate the set of fundamental strategic actions to ensure a reconfiguration of use and ecological of the fluvial, functional to the creation of an ecological, culture and tourism corridor, through which to re-establish contacts and relations between the mountain territory and its parks, the hinterland with its identity values and historical documents, and the coast with its tourist coast and its “enclave” of excellence natural as the protected natural areas. This contribution, retracing some planning experiences conducted at the level of provincial planning and research and teaching experiences carried out within the Faculty of Architecture of Pescara, outlines a framework of synergic actions, able to act synchronously on critical environmental issues, enhancement and preservation of historical-landscaped and opportunities offered by redevelopment, implementing strategies to active protection of the same, through territorial policies times: – the redesign of new consumption patterns of these territories; a slow and conscious use it supersedes the simple crossing, where paths and accessibility become key reading and rediscovery of the assets; – generate system within wider circuits consist of historical, accommodation and food and wine, educational and museum to encourage new forms of sustainable tourism and experiential; – the functional reorganization, perceptive, productive resources.
