The text deals with developing the theoretical and symbolic links between the essays, the nonfictional production of Siegfried Kracauer and his autobiographical novel Ginster. In his perspective, deciphering the hieroglyphics of space and images and bringing the observation of metropolitan life beyond the strict representation of power means a return to the concrete forms of the reality and an attempt to return the things and people in a more authentic dimension. Thanks to the use of narrative process and of the autobiographical reflection, "Ginster", the disillusioned hero, offers an original and estranging point of view on the relationship between depth and surface.
