558The essay discusses Lucien Jaume's "Le religieux et le politique dans la Révolution française" (Paris, Puf, 2015), where the relationship between religion and politics during the French Revolution is read through the lens of the recurring argument of regeneration. In discussing Jaume's argument - according to which the effects of a specific articulation of religion and politics endure along the whole French republican history - the author suggests that Jaume's analysis is developed through hendiadyses and ambivalences. In this way, he is able to stress both the politicization of the religious, and the way the revolutionary debate refers to the religious in the organization of the social.
