In the essay presented is a qualitative research on the representation and the self presentation of female politicians in some mainstream media (the national newspapers «Corriere della Sera» and «la Repubblica» and six talk shows broadcast on Rai, Mediaset, La7) from February to March 2015. Analysis has revealed four main frames in which they are represented: the «authoritative leader», the «passionate combative», the «young inexperienced» and the «faithful spokeswoman». Across «gender frame» has also been detected, which focuses on the private sphere and the female body, against which female politicians try to «resist» by implementing different strategies in the care of their public image.
