2015 is an important year to debate issues concerning gender and media. Different international processes are deploying, dealing with the global sustainable development agenda, the transformations of information and knowledge societies and gender equality, and women empowerment twenty years after the Beijing Conference on Women. This remains a normative reference for all attempts to further elaborate standards of behaviour to promote gender equity in and through the media, including the digital environment. One relevant process is the "Global Alliance for Media and Gender" promoted by UNESCOin 2014. The article outlines the context for the Global Alliance and briefly articulates a research agenda based on academic contributions that may inspire future developments in the Italian context.
