The essay suggests an analysis of Leonardo Sciascia's writings about Giufà, the fool hero of Mediterranean and Sicilian folk tales. Particularly, Sciascia gives a rewriting of the Giufa's tale in which it is possible to read a different interpretation of the character. If Giufà is often considered like a mask of stupidity (I. Calvino), Leonardo Sciascia suggests a different view of this folkloristic hero in the way that he gives a chance of an unusual observation and investigation of reality. In this way Giufà will be a narrative pattern of another Sciascia's character, Candido Munafò (Candido ovvero un sogno fatto in Sicilia).
