The articles illustrates selected aspects of the cycle of public production of culture which, during the Eighties and Nineties, made Ferrara a city of art and culture, and in which local government played a role of entrepreneur. The instrument and the major achievement of this cycle was the construction of "Great Events". i.e. important exhibitions, concerts, operas. Due to a powerful and multiplied media image, Ferrara has become an acknowledged global cultural actor and a successful cultural objet.
