THE COMBINATION OF ART AND ENVIRONMENT AS A TOURIST DEVELOPMENT DRIVING FORCE FOR PERIPHERAL DESTINATIONS. - Local development policies, and tourism ones in particular, have long been experimenting with new forms of enhancement, animation and promotion of marginal or rural areas, combining art and nature as the motor of sustainable tourism. The combination of art, in its various expressions, and environment, in its different acceptations, in fact, represents an alternative tourism model compared to “traditional” travel and tour circuits, capable of attracting tourism flows even in less known places of destination, representing a strategy to re-propose “minor” areas and places in an innovative key. Starting, so, from the recognition of the fundamental role of cultural activities for the enhancement of the territory, this work aims to analyze some innovative models of “slow tourism” policies that combine cultural tourism related to art and naturalistic tourism. In particular, we will focus on the main projects implemented by regional and local public institutions associated to Land Art connected to the paths, and to Street Art connected to the urban setting, especially of smaller urban centers, as innovative forms of driving force for tourism development.
