An original approach to simulation modeling of the HIV/AIDS epidemic is proposed by using sutvivor functions estimated from cohort studies conducted on seropositive and AIDS-diagnosed individuals. Its features allow for time-dependant HIV progression to AIDS and AIDS progression to death, while various forms of suvivor functions can easily accomodate for natural history events as well as for long-progressors and cofactors, when data are available
