In this article, I will provide an overview of the last decades of empirical research in the cognitive neuroscience of language comprehension, particularly as concern its semantic aspects (i.e., neurosemantics). Aften having introduced the most important experimental methodologies currently used in this field, I will discuss the simulative theory of comprehension, which has represented the dominant paradigm for a long time. I will conclude by presenting some open questions and challenges in contemporary neurosemantics, which are destined to occupy the attention of researchers in this field for many years, or decades.
