Taking into account Latin American periodical theological-pastoral literature,this study introduces the ecclesiological development leading up to theConference of Medellín. Considering the previous ecclesiology, it reviewsthe very frail development of the ecclesial conscience in the 1950s; it alsotakes into account the renewal promoted by the Council, in which the continentalChurch was deeply involved, playing a very active role in all thechanges that took place during the nineteen-sixties. This reflection on thatperiod of time clearly supports the idea that Medellín was also an arrivalpoint as far as the development of the Latin American character of the ContinentalChurch was concerned.
