In going through the covers of the editions translated in an ideal sequence, the intention is to focus on a particular perspective: visual translation. In the specific case of "Il barone rampante", this becomes doubly meaningful, due both to the widespread distribution of the translated work and to the value assigned by the author to the subjects of visibility and narrative construction on a visual basis, a value explained several times, to the point where it has become the declaration of a method. The cover of Il barone is the key element of this editorial prerequisite, which contributes to the access to the translated text, setting predictive expectations which drive the flow of the reading. The use, in varying measures, of iconic and verbal-visual components dictated by different editorial strategies, different forms of reuse of images, accompanies references to the narrative passage, to the iconographic subject of the tree, to the figure of the baron and also to the face of the author. On a communicative level, these are key elements in the variable of the translated book.
