The article examines the school edition of "The Baron in the Trees" trying to frame the meaning and the specificity of the Calvino's operation in the years when the book was published, comparing it with the first ten titles in the series "Readings for the middle school" by Einaudi. Calvino's curatorship presents characteristics of marked originality, from the "Notes" that seal each chapter - an excellent example of a targeted textual analysis - to the "fictitious allographic" preface, which, with the creation of the character of Tonio Cavilla, shapes a dialogue with the school's audiences, outlined in a light and amused way, which in addition to the pledges paid to the context of the time indicates valuable and forerunner work paths.
