In this paper I will talk about "narrative imagination" with reference to the Kantian doctrine of schematism. Kant never spoke of a "narrative" schematism. There are, however, some good reasons to believe that this formulation is lawful and is not without interest for the problem of performativity. I will exemplify this proposal with reference to cinema and to the Kantian idea of a "schematism without concept". This will allow me to examine the relationship between imagination and language in a fairly new light. I will make the hypothesis according to which the work carried out by our imagination during the dream activity (another form of "narrative imagination") makes us better understand some aspects about the performative character of this relationship. The concept here will emerge is that of "disautomatization": a concept on which a cooperation between philosophy and neuroscience can be expected.
