This work deals with the role of auditory perception and its close biological and functional correlation with our ability in producing and decoding sounds. The auditory perception has a central function capable of recognizing the biological meaning of communication sounds. This data would support the idea that the auditory cortex, as well as the hearing, cannot be considered as simple biological component useful when organizing linguistic and speech tasks. In the light of the comparative perspective shown here, we assume that the auditory cortex has a species-specific function in the evolution of human communication.
