The main aim of this paper is to discuss on an issue that is increasingly attracting the attention of scholars from various disciplines, i.e. the relationships between food and city. In particular the paper aims to highlight the reason why such relationships may be analysed with the lens of spatial sociology, or rather it aims to clarify how and why the paradigm of spatial sociology can become a «compass» for the investigation of food-city relationships. In order to give a tangible contribution to this reflection, the theme of food is approached in terms of food system and the article begins with a brief introduction to the debate on the relationship between city and food system. Such introduction is followed by two theoretical paragraphs: the first one is related to the sociology of food paradigmatic approaches and the second one describes the main aspects of spatial sociology. The fourth section shows how some of the issues related to the relationships among food-city can be classified and analysed using spatial sociology. The conclusions summarize the emerging issues.
