Following the oil shocks of the early 1970’s, the Government of Brazil adopted an ambitious plan (Proalcool) to guarantee the country’s energy independence. The major idea was to maximize potential positive synergies through identifying linkages and minimizing leakages of new production systems through agricultural and related research based on complementarities, interdependence and connectivity between integrated food, feed and biofuel production. This experience offers possibility for economic resurgence of developing world based on new bioenergy green revolution that can deliver real economic benefits to the poor and rich at the same time. Proalcool for nearly 25 years is producing between 30 to 40% of Brazilian transportation fuel as ethanol. In the same period agricultural, mainly food and feed, production has increased three times. The paper discusses some technological, economic, and policy dimensions of the energy choices needed to meet worldwide economic, social and environmental energy goals, through “Brazil – USA biofuel partnership”, that later can include EU and others.
