The objective of this analysis is to verify if consumption patterns in Eastern Europe, after the Fall of the Berlin Wall, have become more similar to western Europe ones. To answer this question we have used a model proposed by Hermann and Roder in 1995, even if estimates have been calculated using dynamic panel data. This study is different from former papers because of the methods of estimation employed and the exact measurement of the pace at which new member states have converged to the European food consumption average level. In addition, thanks to the consideration of two different scenarios concerning enlargement and thanks to the introduction of real per capita income, the analysis succeeds in enlightening how welfare influences food consumption, most of all in law income countries.
