Concept representation is a crucial research topic both in Artificial Intelligenceand Cognitive Science. In recent years it received a great attention withinknowledge engineering because of its relevance for ontology based technologies.However, despite this renewed attention, many classical problems (e.g., therepresentation of prototypical information and non monotonic reasoning) stillremain unsolved. In this paper we propose an analysis of this state of affairsand sketch a proposal which takes into account suggestions coming from thepsychological research.
