The well known problem of the "tragedy of commons", or the collective management of public goods, has become in recent times even more complex as globalization dynamics contribute to increase the level of interconnection between systems and societies. As a consequence, many of the choices that are made at the local level extend their effects on a global scale. On the other side, the emergence of interdependence phenomena in specific areas of activity, in particular for what concerns the diffusion and use of information and communication technologies, show how in many cases people can create a positive climate of cooperative collaboration, taking part into processes of construction of new collective resources that are not motivated by a mere economic interest. This article presents some of the most recent evidences that are arising in this field and also illustrates a few practical examples that can serve as guidelines for the public management of common resources.
