The article compares some polemical books about Italian reform of university curricula (the so-called «3+2») with the alleged effects of the Bologna Process in Italy. Even if the implementation of this reform was undoubtedly problematic, the scant efficiency of Italian universities does not seem to benefit from it, as one may see by comparing the period before and after the introduction of the bachelor-master system. The article suggests that the expansion of university enrolments is a much more important variable than legislation in accounting for recent changes in Italian universities.
