The weekly «Il Mondo», edited by Mario Pannunzio from 1949 to 1966, has constituted a point of reference for an entire generation of Italian post-World-War II liberal intellectuals and politicians. The essay examines the articles published by «Il Mondo» on three high profile judicial cases, namely the Montesi, Ippolito and Marotta cases. The paper emphasizes how these analyses were able to identify in advance the emergence of the phenomenon then known as trial by media and its negative impact on several fundamental individual rights (privacy, dignity, presumption of innocence). The paper also provides a bibliography of articles published by «Il Mondo» concerning the Italian criminal system and the role of the judiciary.
