Pope Innocent XI embraced many of the reform ideas suggested by G.B. De Luca. When Pope Innocent XI died, his staunch opponent, the jurist Pietro Ottoboni, who was the greatest promoter of the conservative stance, rose to the papal throne. In this capacity, he allowed or maybe promoted the examination process of many books of Theatrum. De Luca, who had already been dead for many years, was thus hit through his work. The essay analyses the reports to the Congregation of the Index Librorum Prohibitorum to retrace the main remarks on the stances, the writings, the metodus and the jurisprudential view of De Luca. In doing so, the essay points out that the objections were not always aligned, since they sometimes differed from one another.
