One of the objectives of Europe 2020 is to spread the Internet andcreate a digital single market. This initiative, called the European digitalagenda, bear very important consequences on working conditions but itis seldomly mentioned in EU policies. Aim of the essay is, on one hand,to highlight the importance of human work in the data economy, on theother hand, to draw some lines of research useful for studying the consequencesfor work and its rules, among which we can name the transformationof work into data (datafication) and the influence that digitaltechnologies are exerting on the worker and his self-determination.
