This paper analyses some transformations of the upper part of the Piave River Basin, whichwere produced in the first half of the twentieth century and resulted in the development of the socalledPiave-Santa Croce system. The making of this system was the outcome of different – oftenconflicting – dynamics, which involved the main subjects interested in the use of Piave water duringthose decades. Such dynamics have been examined starting through the documentation producedand conserved in the Genio civile offices, the administrative structure in charge of water use issuesat the local level.
