The essay reconstructs the events that led to the birth of the ISEF (Istituto Superiore di Educazione Fisica) at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. The Institute originated from the initiative of the Archbishop of Milan Giovanni Battista Montini, who wanted it located in the Rino Fenaroli Academic Sports Center, owned by the Diocese. Therefore the characteristics of its origin are outlined from the point of view of the anthropological, spiritual and pastoral vision of Montini and his successor Giovanni Colombo, and then from the philosophical-nthropological one of the first group of leaders of the Institute, which was the first of its kind opened in Lombardy
