Project criteria of tourist routes in agro-cultural landscapes In the development of modern tourism the concept of route has become well established, on the basis of historical paths, roads and circuits created for reasons other than tourism use. The routes on which the present cultural tourism itineraries wind are based for instance on roads that formed the texture of the areas visited, weaving in complex networks very close relations with the economy and culture of these regions. The construction of cultural tourism itineraries can therefore respond to different models of utility: access to specific significant sites, journey through the historical memory of an area, immersion in cultural landscapes to be seized in their multi-dimensionality, visits to places of traditional craft and business. The paper questions the methods of construction of tourist itineraries aimed at the enhancement of rural areas demanding new forms of cultural tourism, trying to answer the following questions: what narrative can be produced? on which attractions can they be defined? how can they be identified and structured through GIS technologies? After a reflection on the criteria to be used for the enhancement of the landscape in agro-cultural perspective, a GIS application to the Molise territory is proposed, based on a conceptual model developed for tourist enjoyment of goods, services and heritage associated with this type of landscape.
