After the European Landscape Convention of 2000, the landscape has assumed particular importance in the territorial debate, by introducing a complex idea that integrates aesthetic, ecological, cultural, economic and identity aspects and by indicating the need for protection, planning and management. This concept also inspired the new Italian Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape. The landscape plays an important role in the rural development policies, invested in the last 50 years from deep physical, ecological, socio-cultural changes. Those processes determined a separation between the farmers and theirs land, causing "mixed" models of settlement and lifestyles in which are mixed symbolic elements of the urban and rural environment. Policies for the rural territories at different levels (regional, national and European) indicate a strategic development model based on multisectoriality and multifunctionality of agriculture, closely linked to the territories. It involves diversification of agricultural activities and innovative landscape management methods, both in terms of protection and enhancement. This vision considers the promotion of a rural sustainable tourism, such an integrated tourism, discovering and enhancing the place vocation and landscape images. New forms of receptivity and new activities, that bring network resources and integrating nature, culture, society, economy, have experienced.
