The author analyses the recent Labour reform (the so-called Monti-Fornero Reform - Act n. 92/2012) from different perspectives. First, heconsiders the historical context in which the reform has been adoptedand the parliamentary and doctrinal debates accompanying its approval.Then, the goals pursued by the Government and the method followedare presented and critically commented. The author continues by examiningsome specific topics regulated by the legislator (hiring procedures,unemployment benefits, dismissal and redundancy, workers' information and consultation, civil servants). Particular emphasis is given to thestrong constraints imposed by the economic and financial crisis and tothe European binding measures that have been taken to solve it.
