Abstract

This thesis investigates the Project Management system and the relationship between this tool and the concept of Change Management. The aim is to understand whether the former supports a process of organisational change and to discover which the main criticalities of this tool are. After a review of the literature on the two topics discussed, focusing on the main models and the description of the key actors of the processes, a theoretical framework is defined. This allows to highlight which variables are useful to understand the main criticalities and congruencies between the literature and the specific case study of this paper: (i) the relationship between Change Management and Project Management, (ii) the approach of the company towards the processes of organisational change, (iii) the type of organisational structure adopted, (iv) the importance of the roles of project Manager and middle Manager and (v) the relevance of training programmes and development of soft skills. The objective of this thesis is achieved through a qualitative analysis based on an interpretative ontology specifically linked to a series of interviews conducted and to participant observation. This analysis allows to present the case of Leonardo S.p.A., showing the data collected during the qualitative survey and making them the object of elaborate reflections. The main results that emerged are (i) a clear connection between the figure of the project manager and a process of organisational change, (ii) the fact that project management of business processes is still poorly implemented and (iii) investments in staff training to permeate a culture based on change need to be further increased.
