Abstract

This bachelor's degree thesis wants to analyze one of the most recent planning methodologies called Demand Driven Materials Requirement Planning (DDMRP). Some generical considerations were made to described today's supply-chain/network environment like a high degree of variability within the different nodes. So, organizations must be much more flexible and agile to meet customer needs. The above factors raised some practical problems, which required to develop or analyze new planning methodologies. The DDMRP face the above problems with the introduction of strategic buffers, which day by day run a Net Flow Equation (NFE) to generate supply orders when needed. In addition, the scheduling process follows unusual procedures to allow order's launching, which is made using specific three-color coded indexes. The DDMRP principles follow and integrate the most important theories of material management such as Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP), Lean Manufacturing, Theory of Constraints (TOC), Six Sigma and Innovation Management. The objective of this bachelor’s degree thesis is to critically analyze the DDMRP methodology. So, DDMRP five steps were described with also a focus on their strengths and weaknesses. That was done through a systematic literature review i.e., studying DDMRP practitioners' guide, many pieces of research and articles, and practical case studies available online and in the library. All these data seem to mainly support its implementation. Benefits such as Working Capital, Lead Times, and Stock-Out minimization or Revenue increasing usually manifested after its implementation. Everything is available both online and at the library. Moreover, some self-made simulations were set-up for seeing if DDMRP buffers’ behaviors and characteristics followed what was previously understood. DDMRP.
