In the essay, the author analyses if a European Social Model hasnever existed and which are its main characteristics. To this extent, heconsiders the evolution of European Law on employment, social securityand social protection. He underlines how the social progresses reachedby European Union are currently under-threaten by the social dumpingand by the unequal balance between economic freedoms and socialrights established in some case law of the European Court of Justice. Inorder to strengthen the European Social Model, it is therefore necessaryto reduce the social differences among the Member States and to improvethe political and social integration in Europe.
