In a society characterised by a substantial increase in life expectancy and a consequent growing incidence of elderly people, the issue of «good» ageing becomes of great importance, not only with regard to health conditions, but also with regard to maintaining meaningful social roles. And, within this framework, both policies supporting active ageing and analyses of the retirement experience have become relevant in the past decades. But at present, in the face of changes in the pension system that see both a postponement of the age of retirement and a tendency towards lower social security coverage, new questions arise concerning the repercussions of these changes on both the experience of «senior» workers and on family solidarity between generations and the social participation of the elderly
