The article offers a critical analysis of Nietzsche’s so-called ‘anti-historicism’, drawing on analytical tools developed by historians of philosophy to investigate philosophical thought with special attention to its contextualisation and diachronic development. The study focuses on a theoretical question, in order to contribute to the understanding of the role that Nietzsche assigned to history in his attempts to bring about simultaneously the contestation of traditional academic philology – through the exaltation of classical Greekness – and the construction of a novel philosophical-moral perspective. The final part of the article considers the question of whether the Nietzschean philosophy of the future centered on history serves the celebration of life or whether on the contrary it foresees the end of history.
