The essay discusses J.G. Fichte's legal and political philosophy, underlining the persistency of a stabile thread throughout its whole development. Having being marked by various ideological labels - anarchism, socialism, extreme nationalism - Fichte's inquiry actually expresses a continuous attempt to articulate a consistent conception of the "Rechtsstaat" through an analysis of its constitutive terms: the State and the law. The Author argues that Fichte dealt not only with the turning points of his age, but also with a topical theoretical question, that is the separation between the fields of morals, law and politics.
