The essay compares three main figures of the theoretical Marxism of the early two decades of the 20th century (Lukács, Korsch and Gramsci) stressing the analogies between their reflections under the light of the critique of vulgar Marxism, the revaluation of Hegelian dialectic as a source of historical materialism, the reformulation of the relationship between theory and praxis and the consequent importance acknowledged to the political and historical role of the revolutionary subjectivity.
