This paper examines the content of Hans Kelsen's lately published work Secular Religion. The book was completed in the early 60's but the author never decided to put it into print, because of his discontent of the achieved results. The first part of the article expounds on the long story of the publication. The second partindicates the most important themes of Kelsen's controversy against some metaphysical interpretation of history and politics. Finally the third part compares the ideas expressed in the book with those expressed in the author's contemporary works and examines the reason of his discontent.
