The author reexamines FortunatoDepero's marionnette show Balliplastici, which was performed inApril 1918 on the Teatro dei Piccoli's stage in Rome. The showis analysed in the context of thefuturist artist's collaboration withDiaghilev and on the basis ofnew documentary evidence. Thisenables light to be shed on someaspects of the Balli plastici suchas Gilbert Clavel's coreographiccontribution, the musical accompaniment or the allusions conjured up in the plot. !e criticalappraisal of this theatrical eventat the time of its premiere is alsoexamined with particular emphasis on Edward Gordon Craig'snegative remarks.
