The idea that the politics of acknowledgement and the deliberative conception of democracy are complementary is more and more accepted by political philosophy. Both this paradigms, indeed, seemingly aim to develop processes of social inclusion that could be able to respect collective ways of life based upon a common identity. Actually, these affinity hides deeper tensions, and the essay suggests that a politics of acknowledgement which is not well differentiated would conflict with the general principles of deliberative democracy.
