The essay starts from Alessandra Pescarolo’s book Il lavoro delle donne nell’Italia contemporanea (Viella, 2019) to question the exploitation of women throughout history and the discrimination still present in contemporary Italian society. It points to a new conceptualization and discipline of care as a way to overcome the current impasse of women’s emancipation in our country. This would also allow to strengthen and make more effective equality (not only gender equality). Finally, the text recalls the issues raised by the authors invited to discuss Pescarolo’s book in this section
