The aim of this paper is to analyze a fairly unaddressed issue, that is the problem connected to the responsibility of internet «operators», both private and public, as well as to the alleged «knowledge» that any web surfer believes to acquire. How is it possible to clarify these phenomena from the point of view of the law, the philosophy of law, and especially the epistemology? Moreover, two classical philosophical approaches to testimony (the former Humean, the latter Reidean) will be compared in order to evaluate the epistemic justification of the propositions we can find on the web, with special regard to the seriousness of the crime possibly committed regarding the transmission of those propositions.
