Franca De Marini's book "Critica testuale e studio storico del diritto" has had three editions. There are many differences between the first and the second edition. The book stems from the lectures of the course «Esegesi delle fonti del diritto romano» held by Franca De Marini and is regarded as «the cultural portrait» of the author. It also testifies Franca De Marini's interest in Late Antiquity and the Romanistic Tradition. The paper shows how Franca De Marini was attentive to the historicity of law and to the freedom of the historian.
