The essay tries to identify the common thread connecting the different suggestions offered by the reading. First of all, obiter represents a keyword in the Annunziata book’s title, meaning what lies outside. More precisely, it is pointed out that the book is characterized by an extemporaneous reflection, because it leads out of the temporal dimension. Another outstanding element is the relationship between a master and his apprentice, where the figure of Gino Gorla emerges. It seems that Gorla offers a literary expedient for a consideration of the very meaning of the research. Indeed, it is the act of research that support the book’s storytelling. Finally, the essay identifies how the pandemic plays a central role. Pandemic isolation, indeed, represents a trigger for the real meaning of research. Within that framework, research remains the only protagonist of the story.
