This work provides a critical literature review on sustainability; the paper focuses on the wine industry. Background literature has been reorganised, in order to outline emerging research trends and any lack in research activity. By following findings from previous researches, authors outline a general interpretative framework that can be applied when evaluating firms’ orientation towards sustainability. The aims of this paper are: to give an enlighten on the issue of sustainability; to outline the state of the art of research on sustainability in the wine business; to highlight inputs for further researches in the field of firms’ orientation towards sustainability.
