The closure of public space, radicalized during the covid-19 pandemic, does not have its origin in the need to cope with the health crisis. It is possible to grasp a sort of trend that in the last two decades has led to the increasingly stringent regulation of the relationship between people and space, arriving during the pandemic to the detailed determination of the possibilities of access to public and private places, as well as mobility in - and between – cities. This essay briefly investigates these dynamics, starting from the relationship between the progressive affirmation of an emerging paradigm of confinement, the re-signification of private space, the closure of public space and the differentiation of subjectivities
