This paper reconstructs my relationship with Paolo Grossi, who has had an important shaping influence on my research, from my early studies on the Second Scholastic, to my more recent investigations on topics and question relating to what he termed the “pos-modernµ age. Over time I also developed a personal relationship with him, a bond that grew stronger with every occasion for exchange that there has been between us — and there have been many, each with a lasting impact on my personal as well as professional life. Among these were the lectures he gave for my course on the philosophy of law: these were much appreciated by the students enrolled in the course, for which I adopted some of his booklets, as he liked to call them, such as his Prima lezione di diritto (First Lesson in Law) and Ritorno al diritto (Return to Law).
