The meeting on recent earthquakes in central Italy, held in Macerata on March 3, 2017, brought a wide-ranging confrontation aimed at revitalizing the historic architectural heritage. Most of the actors involved in the seismic events gathered: Territorial authorities active in event management; Superintendents and officials involved in Heritage protection; Universities; architects and engineers, the future protagonists of reconstruction; Mayors, councilors and ordinary citizens of the communities hit by the earthquake. The revival of such an important and fragile territory needs reconstruction tackled with a global social, economic, technical and human vision, which we could summarize in four intertwined themes: Safety, that is to live in the same place in safer buildings; Identity, while maintaining the architectural and immaterial heritage of communities; Sustainability, that is, the maintenance and development of economic activities; and Participation, that is to share with citizens the use of state funding and the ways of reconstruction.
