360During the last few years, Anna Maria Borghi and Felice Cimatti have proposed an extension of embodied theories of language comprehension, in order to consider also the social and normative aspects of language. Such a proposal has been meant to provide an embodied explanation to the problem of abstract words, rejecting the existence of amodal symbols. The aim of this article is to reconstruct the Authors' argumentation, highlighting firstly the «strong points» of their theory, and then pointing out some critical aspects. In the conclusion, I will try to show that it is still possible to admit the presence of amodal representations beyond the distinction between abstract words and concrete words.
