A recent “conflict” between the German Constitutional Tribunal and the Court of Justice of the European Union on EU's monetary policy issues has brought to the fore the "crisis" of the Union itself, whose solution is now being seen on many sides in the need to achieve EU treaties' social aims, by strengthening the relevant EU tools. This need is particularly felt now that the European Union, together with its Member States, is facing a systemic and multi-sectoral crisis with a "regional" as well as "global" dimension. In this context, the European Committee of Social Rights has judged some EU Member States for breaches of the European Social Charter in the implementation of measures imposed at EU level on economic/monetary policies issues: as possible solutions, the paper assesses either EU accession to other international organizations (e.g., Council of Europe with specific reference to the European Social Charter) or a robust development of EU's competences in the socio-labor field.
